Breaking the original record they set back in 2016 with $7.6 billion at the worldwide box office, Disney has finally crossed the $10 billion threshold. Ultimately, the unmatched success of Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King helped Disney seal the deal on its own record-breaking numbers.
As reported by Variety, these ticket sales don't include Fox's Ford v. Ferrari or Dark Phoenix. But since Disney has inherited Fox's film repertoire, its worldwide record is increased to $11.9 billion. The eventual release of The Rise of Skywalker will also play a part in increasing these totals.
Disney already owns 6 of the 10 highest-grossing movies of 2019: Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, Aladdin and Frozen 2. All of these movies – except Frozen 2 at $920 million – have surpassed $1 billion at the global box office. Frozen 2 is currently still in theaters, however, it will likely be joining in the billion-dollar success as well eventually.
In theaters now, Disney's Frozen 2 reunites directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and producer Del Vecho with voice actors Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad. Returning musical talents include Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
