Daredevil: 10 Most Hilarious Memes Of All Time | CBR

For a long time, Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil languished in b-hero status among the Marvel pantheon. The movie featuring the character played by Ben Affleck didn't do him any favors either.

RELATED: 10 Best Daredevil Storylines In Marvel Comics, Ranked

But with the new show based on the character, audiences finally realized that Daredevil is basically an even more badass version of Batman. He's a regular guy who, despite being blind, uses his brains, brawn, and slightly heightened senses to fight crime as a vigilante at night and as a lawyer by day. The character has inspired more than his fair share of memes, and here are the most hilarious ones:

10 Basically Batman

Batman wishes he could be as much like a true bat as Daredevil naturally is. Unlike the Dark Knight, who has to rely on technology to create a map of Gotham using 'Bat Sonar,' Daredevil's ears are naturally attuned towards mapping out the surrounding area via echolocation thanks to his acute sense of hearing.

RELATED: 10 Batman Rip-Offs That Were Just Terrible (And 10 That Were Weirdly Better)

Also, the collapsible bat he carries as his weapon of choice takes the 'Bat' motif even further. Really, Daredevil has a much better claim to the mantle of The Batman than Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, or any other hero in Gotham.

9 Lack of Vision

Who knew Scarlett Witch and Daredevil would be so uniquely tied by tragic circumstances? Both sported costumes of a vibrantly red hue in their comics, which were toned down considerably by the studios behind their live-action avatars to give them a more 'gritty' appearance.

Also, both are suffering from a tragic loss of 'Vision' in their lives, rendering them somewhat helpless and alone. Needless to say, Matt literally lost his vision when he was a young boy, while Scarlett Witch lost her lover named Vision at the hands of the Mad Titan named Thanos.

8 Not a Game

Online multiplayer games are a tough cookie sometimes when you are cut off from communicating with the rest of your crew and are basically flying blind against an enemy who is ignoring the rest of the gameplay to target you specifically.

RELATED: Daredevil's 15 Deadliest Villains, Ranked

In such cases, being able to escape with your life is a rare feat, but it is all the more satisfying to take down that annoying opponent and then gloat in their face. Naturally, in such a scenario, you are Daredevil, and the opponent is Kingpin.

7 The Downer Defender

Considering the tragic circumstances that gave birth to most of the heroes of the Defenders team, they were never going to have the breezy camaraderie of the Avengers, but they still make it work, despite having to take the subway instead of their own private jet. Jessica Jones looks to be feeling too grumpy to participate in the conversation.

Are the other two maybe talking about when Jessica got really drunk and flashed the Punisher? Or something even wilder? We'll never know, but memes like this do help fuel the fires of speculation. And Jessica does look like she needs another drink to get through the conversation.

6 The Trials Of Being Daredevil

These are the smaller questions about life as a blind superhero that Marvel rarely addresses, and so fans are forced to come up with their own, hilarious conclusions. Imagine Daredevil needs to whiz while visiting the Avengers tower and has to be extra careful not to spray the toilet bowl, so the Avengers don't see the Defenders as uncouth hooligans.

We can imagine Daredevil's brain creating an echolocation map of the area based on the pattern of patter as the jet of water hits the bowl, and then using it to direct and refine his aim. It's a process fraught with nerves and complications.

5 Being Daredevil

Everyone loves superhero games because who doesn't want to kick butt as the Dark Knight or Spider-Man? But a first-person shooter for a Daredevil game would be almost impossible to navigate, what with him being blind and all.

Such a game would have to be entirely noise-based instead, and that would get old fast, as you flail around the game in complete darkness. Did your punches land? Did you save the victim? Did you defeat the final boss? Did you accidentally knock out the victim instead, and that gave time for the boss to run away? We don't know; we can't see anything!

4 Sneaking into the Avengers

Matt's the only hero who can use this tactic to try to get into the Avengers team. And Steve Rogers and all the other Avengers would be too nice to tell him this isn't the Defenders crew. So Daredevil could become the first Avenger who is a member because everyone feels too awkward to tell him to leave.

And once Matt is in, you know it is only a matter of time before he sneaks the rest of his Defenders pals into the Avengers tower, while the rest of the Avengers fume and wait for Tony to kick them out. Now that's a Civil War-type storyline we'd love to watch.

3 Lawyer Mode

You can take the hero out of the lawyer, but you can't take the lawyer out of the hero. Daredevil is the one hero who can stall his own arrest for as long as he wants by bringing up lots of obscure articles and clauses in the constitution to delay his arrest.

That is why it is a good idea to have him on your superhero team. Imagine if Matt had been a part of the team when Captain American and Iron Man were arguing over the Sokovia accords. Matt could probably have found a way to negotiate the accords in a way that satisfied both parties, thus in all probability preventing the war that took place between the two superhero factions.

2 Walking into a Bar

The age-old joke 'A man walks into a bar...' gets a new spin with Daredevil. Not only does he walk into a bar, but he also walks into a table and a chair and presumably a lot of other furniture that is in his way.

After all, not every place has lots of noise for Matt to create an echolocation map of his surroundings, and he has a tendency to wander around without his walking stick, so people don't realize Daredevil is blind. The two factors combine to almost guarantee Matt will be crashing into a lot of stuff, while people who witness the whole thing assume Daredevil has had a few drinks too many.

1 Daredevil the King of Ham

Daredevil is an accomplished fighter and lawyer. But an actor he is not. When he had to affect a simple ruse with Hawkeye, where he had to pretend to feel pain when the archer shot bright light into his face, Matt proceeded to ham up the entire scene worse than Jesse Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor.

Onlookers must have felt that Daredevil AKA The Man with No Fear, is kind of a wimp when it comes to getting light flashed into his eyes, probably prompting more than a few criminals in Hell's Kitchen to start carrying laser pointer keychains.

X-Men: The 10 Worst Moments of Rogue And Gambit’s Relationship

The X-Men are different from any other team in the Marvel universe. Unlike the Fantastic Four or Avengers, The X-Men are not universally loved. The team is feared and persecuted, and act as Marvel's narrative playground to touch on issues of race and nationality. The unique existence of the X-Men has inspired writers to craft some of the most intriguing love stories. None is more unusual than that of Gambit and Rogue.

RELATED: The 20 Strangest Things About Rogue And Gambit’s Relationship That Nobody Talks About

Gambit and Rogue are in love, but they cannot touch one another. Rogue's power would sap the card throwing mutant's powers and also force her to endure his thoughts. This has already occurred in the comics, and it led each of them down a dangerous path. The couple has had their ups, but their downs have reached depths that highlight some of the best X-Men stories. Here is the list of the ten worst moments in Gambit and Rogue's relationship.

10 They Try To Bond On The Astral Plane But Fail

The ongoing drama between Rogue and Gambit stems from the fact that they can't touch each other. Emma Frost tried to fix their issue but functioning as a relationship counselor. Frost would take both of them to the Astral Plane so they could experience time together and intimacy.

Unfortunately, that didn't work at all. Their psychic connection was so deep that Rogue still sapped the life out of Gambit in the astral place. Even with the help of one of the world's most powerful psychics, Rogue and Gambit could not touch. The attempt to bring them closer together ended up pushing them further apart, because Rogue felt helplessness even in a non-physical form.

9 They Battle Clones Of Themselves

As if the fight for each other wasn't hard enough, Gambit and Rogue are forced to fight themselves. Literally. The couple agrees to go on a mission for the X-Men after the team suspects trouble at a resort. Rogue and Gambit enter the resort under the guise of a couple that needs weeding counseling.

The counseling does open up many scars, but nothing compared to being face to face with robot replicas of themselves. While exploring the island and learning the villain Lavish was kidnapping mutants and replacing them with robots, Remy and Rogue fight and defeat their counterparts, which was blatant symbolism for killing their old selves in order to step into the future.

8 Gambit May Have Manipulated Rogue

One of Gambit’s latent mutant abilities is his charm, which can function as subtle mind control. Gambit knows when he is laying on his suggestive mutant charm, which is a little creepy when you think about it. Although the Cajun will never admit that he used it on Rogue, one can never be sure.

RELATED: The Best Gambit Stories (And Where To Buy Them)

When Rogue and Gambit first met, they were subject to mind control that forced them to give in to their desires. It is possible that during that time, Gambit uses his charm to further manipulate Rogue and draw her into his web. It doesn't seem like Gambit used that power on Rogue since their meeting, but it raises a question mark on how he attracted her in the first place.

7 Rogue Tells Gambit Deadpool Is A Better Kisser

During another mind control segment, Rogue finds herself under the direction of Red Skull, who was manipulating Professor X). He forces her to beat the living hell out of Deadpool because of his immunity to the control. Once Red Skull was defeated, it led to immense guilt in the mind of Rogue.

She later approached the Merc with the Mouth to apologize, at which point Deadpool admitted that he had feelings for her. Like the boss she is, Rogue then lifted Wade off his feet and made out with him in mid-air. Not too long after, Rogue made of point of suggesting to Gambit that Deadpool was a better kisser. Ouch.

6 Gambit Kidnaps Rogue

On the X-Men: Evolution cartoon show, Gambit takes Rogue down to New Orleans, where they don’t exactly have an amazing first “date.” He kidnaps Rogue and uses her to absorb the memories of a group of hostiles holding his father captive. It’s hard to tell if Gambit really cared about Rogue at this point, although his flirting may prove he did.

Still, the Cajun used the young heroine and her power as an end to a means, which left Rogue soured on any possibility of even a friendship with the Cajun. Later, Professor X glances into the future and sees that Gambit ends up joining the X-Men and gets closer to Rogue, hinting that she will forgive him at some point.

5 Gambit Blames Rogue For Blindness

In a peculiar storyline, Gambit becomes blinded by his own powers. A charged card ends up going off in the Cajun’s face, blinding him for what was believed to be the rest of his comic history.

In retrospect, the storyline was brief and pointless, but it did bring out the worst in Remy. While wallowing in his own sorrows and getting treatment, Gambit argued that Rogue was the reason he sustained his injuries. Although his point was not entirely wrong, for Gambit to lash out at the only person who has loved him may not have been the best moment in their tumultuous relationship.

4 The Shadow King Forces Their Relationship

Although Gambit and Rogue’s relationship is as real as they come, their attraction to one another started with mind control. Both heroes were under the control of the Shadow King when they first met, along with the rest of the X-Men. When the Shadow King is in control of a large group of people, he brings out their darkest desires and reduces their inhibitions.

While under the villain’s control, Rogue and Gambit begin to fall for each other, and it is also suggested that this is the first time they make love (since they were depowered during this time as well). Having such an intimate moment forced upon them by mind control makes their relationship and attraction to each other even murkier.

3 Gambit Almost Sleeps With Mystique

Most mothers would do anything to protect their children, and Mystique is no different. Rogue’s foster mother once infiltrated the X-Men with the goal of seducing Gambit to prove to Rogue that he couldn’t be faithful. Mystique disguised herself as a new student, and underage one at that, named Foxx at the X-Men’s school. She cornered him in the shower and tried to get him to engage in questionable acts.

RELATED: 10 DC Heroes We’d Love To See Mystique Impersonate

Thankfully, the Cajun declined. Soon after, she revealed her true self and then morphed into Rogue, offering Gambit a way to "release" the tension in a way he could never physically do with Rogue. Gambit denies that he ever slept with Mystique, but she refuses to disclose any information about their rendezvous, which makes things seem suspicious. Once the X-Men discover Mystique and Rogue learns that Gambit knew about her presence all along, she becomes skeptical of her lover and pushes him away.

2 Rogue Kisses Gambit & Learns His Past

While isolated in the wilderness, Rogue and Gambit share a kiss that would become the most infamous moment of their relationship. Gambit’s memories are transferred to Rogue, and she learns of his destructive past. Rogue discovers that Gambit struck a deal with Mr. Sinister, which resulted in the Morlock Massacre.

Although Gambit did not know he was leading Sinister’s men to their prey, he still inadvertently is responsible for the deaths of an entire community of mutants that Rogue was close with. She left Gambit in the wilderness to die, and when he survived and returned home, nothing was the same between the two lovebirds.

1 Gambit Tries To Kill Rogue

This may be the darkest moment in Rogue and Gambit’s long history of love. Unlike most of Apocalypse’s Horsemen, Gambit chose to join the evil mutant of his own free will. His plan was to infiltrate Apocalypse’s ranks as a spy, but the transformation into Death warped his mind more than he intended and left him as an evil shell of his former self.

Transformed in the Horseman of Death, Gambit decides that he needs to kill off his old self in order to fully embrace his new dark side. In his mind, that meant killing Rogue. Gambit battles his lover and almost ends up killing her, but he has his power neutralized by Pulse, which stops him from being able to complete his mission.

One Piece: All Known Cursed Swords (& 5 That Are Likely Cursed)

$

0

The One Piece world features some monstrously powerful characters, some of which wield the strongest of swords. Over the years, we've been introduced to mighty blades, such as the likes of Mihawk's Yoru, and others which are even more peculiar, known as Cursed Swords. As evident from the name itself, cursed swords are blades that have a curse bound to them.

RELATED:One Piece: The Strongest Members Of The Heart Pirates, Ranked According To Strength

The curse varies from blade to blade, but in general, all of them bring misery to those who wield them. That's not to say these blades aren't powerful. On the contrary, cursed swords are easily some of the mightiest of blades in One Piece. Here are all the known Cursed Swords, and 5 more that could be cursed.

9 Cursed: Sandai Kitetsu

The Sandai Kitetsu is a mighty blade that was forged by Tenguyama Hitetsu at some point, and it somehow found its way to East Blue. It ultimately ended up falling in Roronoa Zoro's hands who, just by looking at it, claimed that the blade was cursed. From what we know, those who wield the Sandai Kitetsu are met with a horrible end, which is why few people managed to keep hold of it.

Evidently, that didn't faze Roronoa Zoro, whose will to conquer the blade proved to be stronger than its curse. Over the years, the Sandai Kitetsu has grown to be one of Zoro's best blades, which is expected of a Wazamono grade sword.

8 Possibly Cursed: Oto and Kogarashi

Oto (Cherry Ten) and Kogarashi (Wintry Wind) are the blades wielded by the legendary pirate, Golden Lion Shiki. Before the Great Pirate Era, Shiki was one of the strongest known pirates on the seas, possessing the largest known Armada. Shiki possessed tremendous skills as a swordsman, being able to fight both Garp and Sengoku at the same time.

His blades could possibly be cursed since they are renowned weapons in the possession of one of the mightiest pirates to sail the seas. Although Oda hasn't confirmed it to date, we might see a bit more of him in a future SBS.

7 Cursed: Kikoku

Kikoku belongs to none other than the Captain of the Heart Pirates and one of the members of the Worst Generation, Trafalgar D. Water Law. As its wielder, Law possesses tremendous skills when it comes to fighting, being capable of cutting through mountains and even Haki.

RELATED: 10 One Piece Characters Who Are Based On Real Life Pirates

Interestingly enough, the exact grade of this sword is not known, but it is likely one of the 21 O Wazamono grade swords. It remains to be seen what curse Kikoku bears, but it is speculated that it has to do with enduring pain since 'Kikoku' literally means 'wail'. Hopefully, we'll get confirmation on it soon.

6 Possibly Cursed: Hitetsu's Sword

One of the best-known swordsmiths in the world of One Piece, Tenguyama Hitetsu is quite the swordsman himself as well. Although his exact proficiency with a sword isn't known, the fact that he's a renowned swordsman of Wano already makes him one of the strongest known characters in the country.

Hitetsu wields an unknown blade of an unknown rank which is likely cursed as well. Since he was the one who created the cursed blade 'Sandai Kitetsu', it is highly likely that Hitetsu's very own sword is cursed as well. Unfortunately, its powers haven't been revealed yet, but we've pinned our hopes on Onigashima to give us a glimpse of what it can do.

5 Cursed: Nidai Kitetsu

Belonging to the Kitetsu family, the Nidai Kitetsu was created by a legendary swordsmith of Wano Country named Kotetsu. This blade was in the possession of Tenguyama Hitetsu, a descendant of Kotetsu. Being one of the 21 O Wazamono grade swords, the Nidai Kitetsu is significantly stronger than the Sandai Kitetsu.

Just like Sandai Kitetsu, this blade is cursed as well, and its curse is potentially stronger than that of the Sandai Kitetsu. Currently, the Nidai Kitetsu is being held by Monkey D. Luffy, although he barely knows how to handle a regular sword, let alone a cursed one.

4 Possibly Cursed: Raiu

Raiu is a nodachi type of blade that's wielded by the second division commander of the Blackbeard Pirates, Shiryu of the Rain. Its name 'Raiu' literally means 'Thunderstorm'. Although its rank hasn't been confirmed yet, it is likely one of the O Wazamono grade swords. While Raiu's abilities are unknown, it is implied to have a thirst for blood, as claimed by Shiryu during the Impel Down arc.

According to Shiryu, this sword has tasted the blood of many fallen victims, and it is extremely difficult to handle, as a result. Although it isn't confirmed to be a cursed sword, it is likely going to be presented as one by the end of the series.

3 Likely Cursed: Durandal

Durandal belongs to the Captain of the Beautiful Pirates and the first division commander of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, Cavendish. This sword is extremely powerful, as seen throughout the entirety of the Dressrosa arc. With its power, Cavendish had sliced through his enemies without any significant trouble.

RELATED: One Piece: 10 Strongest Alliances Of All Time, Ranked

Although the sword doesn't appear to be cursed by its appearance, it might have something to do with Hakuba, Cavendish's alter-ego. Hakuba awakens when Cavendish falls asleep, and his power is certainly astounding. Why Cavendish has Hakuba with him isn't known, but his sword being cursed gives fans something to grasp upon.

2 Possibly Cursed: Enma

Enma is one of the two blades that belonged to the legendary samurai, Kozuki Oden of Wano. Along with Ame no Habakiri, this sword is said to be a match for even the likes of Shusui, wielded by Shimotsuki Ryuma. Enma is extremely hard to master as it drains every bit of Haki from its user, making their bodies shrivel up in the process. Consequently, the slashes unleashed are a lot more powerful than intended as well.

Enma bears a sinister feeling to it since it was described by Hitetsu as the blade that can even 'slice hell apart', while Ame no Habakiri is a blade that can 'split heavens'. As such, there's no doubt that Enma could possibly be a cursed sword.

1 Cursed: Shodai Kitetsu

The first forged Kitetsu blade, known as the Shodai Kitetsu is the strongest out of all three of them. This sword is one of the Saijo o Wazamono grade swords, making it one of the 12 strongest blades in the entire One Piece series. The forger of this sword isn't known yet, but it is likely one of Hitetsu's family as well.

The Shodai Kitetsu possesses the same curse as the Sandai and Nidai Kitetsu, although likely much stronger. In terms of power, it is a magnificent blade that can be compared to Mihawk's Yoru and Whitebeard's Murakumogiri, and hence packs a lot of power.

5 Most Accurate Depictions of Sports In Anime (& The 5 Least)

$
0
0

We all know how great sports anime can be. This genre of anime has grown exponentially since the humble beginnings and every year it seems that more and more of them are rising to the top of everyone's best anime of the year lists. However, with the growing volume of sports anime comes much more variety and when it comes to sports anime you can be sure that no two series are ever the same.

RELATED: Ranked: The 10 Best Sports Anime Ever Made

At one moment, you could be watching an anime about high school boys playing tennis and the next thing you know, the main characters are in super-powered mechs using asteroids and meteors as the ball. So, let's show a few examples with the five most and least accurate depictions sports in anime.

10 Accurate: Yuri On Ice

Despite a few exaggerations, Yuri on Ice is a pretty accurate depiction of ice skating in anime form. Why wouldn't it be? The team behind it has come out as huge fans of the amazing sport and many of the characters are even based on real professional ice skaters.

A few skaters have even come out themselves and stated that the stories the characters follow are very accurate to many skaters' own. So while some of the moves pulled off are a bit of a stretch of the imagination, the other details caught by the creators really make up for it big time!

9 Inaccurate: Prince of Tennis

Prince of Tennis begins by fooling you into thinking it's going to be a sports story based in reality but that is quickly thrown out the window like a ball over a tennis net. After the short realism fakeout, the series turns 180 and begins breaking the laws of physics at any given opportunity. Issac Newton would faint.

While the moves like Boomerang Snake, Kikumaru Beam, Dragonfly Illusion, and Cyclone Smash-Ryoma take inspiration from real tennis technique, they are way too far from reality to pull off IRL. Or, perhaps, players just aren't charging their chi through their tennis rackets enough.

8 Accurate: Hajime no Ippo

One of the most highly regarded and longest-running sports anime of all time, and for good reason. Hajime no Ippo features real ideas and techniques from real-life boxing and details it for casual viewers to understand. We follow our main character, Ippo, from his beginnings as a weak kid and his grueling training regimen to become a boxer, all the way up to his career in the realistic major leagues full of title-bouts. With no need of a time skip, by the way.

And no, the super moves aren't real, but they're definitely more realistic than our last and next entrants.

7 Inaccurate: Eyeshield 21

Eyeshield 21 is an amazing anime cut off the same leaf as The Prince of Tennis, where it starts off slow but ramps up fast. This series doesn't even try to fool you like that one though. It's shonen exaggeration through and through!

RELATED: The 10 Least Inspirational Sports Anime Of All Time

You've got your flash, your unrealistic comebacks, Dragon Ball-esque ki moves, hero moments, and straight-up superpowers! This is one series you don't want to go into looking for comparisons to its sports real-life counterpart cause that's not what you'll find here. If you're looking for something a bit more realistic while keeping the same fun intact, look no further than the next entrant!

6 Accurate: Ping Pong the Animation

This anime will absolutely blow you away with the true to life characters, plot, and crazy amazing animation! Each character is life-like and defies all the usual anime archetypes, the characters' driving motivations aren't simply the game they're playing but the relations forged by the game as well.

It's a tale of those without the natural-born talent that stick through when times get tough and forge the ability themselves. A ping pong anime may seem silly at first but this is one no sports or anime fan should miss out on. It's a legendary series that garners unanimous high praise for a reason.

5 Inaccurate: Baki the Grappler

You want a —literal— larger than life combat sports anime? Look no further than Baki the Grappler. This series is a celebration of all things combat sports and does it well. Complete fantasy with a hint of realism is the winning formula for this very celebrated series.

Baki is a series about an underground world of fighters from all genres of battle sports (boxing, Muay Thai, street fighting, and more) who come together to fight in no-holds-barred contests. In this pool of fighters, one man will be crowned the strongest in the land. Well, at least, it starts that simple until a caveman, psychopathic criminals, a reborn Musashi, and a guy that can stomp so hard he creates a mini earthquake show up. Oh, and Muhammad Ali is there too!

4 Accurate: Haikyuu!!

One of the most well-regarded sports anime of the decade! Haikyuu!! takes no shortcuts when it comes to being a perfect sports anime and bases everything in the real world. There are no power-ups, and barely any larger than life moves at all, besides a few high jumps and mega-accurate tosses here and there.

RELATED: Ranked: The 10 Best Racing Anime Ever Made

This anime is definitely one of the "very realistic" variety. The author himself was a middle-blocker on junior and senior high school volleyball teams had a big hand in that.

3 Inaccurate: Inazuma Eleven

God Hand, True God Hand, God Hand V, Fist of Justice, Majin the Hand, Omega the Hsubsti, the Hammer of Wrath, Outer Dimension Hand, Outer Dimension Hand Remastered, True Outer Dimension Hand, and Fireball Knuckle.

Even the biggest of soccer fans have presumably never heard about any of these techniques, which might just be among the most ridiculously named in anime. Due to this and the constant usage of ki moves in Inazuma Eleven, it'll be assumed that you know why this anime is unrealistic and we'll move on to the next entry.

2 Accurate: Slam Dunk

Not only is Slam Dunk one of the most realistic sports anime around, but it is also regarded as one of the best sports anime of all time. The main team takes plenty of losses and the series even goes out of its way to teach different rules and techniques of basketball.

Each character feels true to life and has different reasons for playing and is always at a different skill level. There are benchers and star players and of course, there are no power-ups or superpowers. If you're a basketball or anime fan, then Slam Dunk is a very highly recommended series!

1 Inaccurate: Kuroko no Basket

On the opposite end of the spectrum to Slam Dunk is Kuroko no Basket. This series is the epitome of "anime power up." Certain characters possess different inhuman abilities that they use to turn the tide on the court. When your sports series has power levels that are based on the different super skills you use, then you know something's up in the realism department.

But don't let these exaggerated feats ruin your experience. Each of the sports anime listed has something special to give to any viewer and each of them is highly recommended!

Dragon Ball: 5 Vegeta Costumes We Loved (& 5 He Should Never Wear Again)

Throughout the years of Dragon Ball, the beloved characters of the series have all donned some of the most iconic looks in the world of anime. Seriously, have you seen those Saiyan haircuts? One of the characters at the forefront of that fashion festival is, of course, the Prince of All Saiyans, Vegeta.

RELATED: Dragon Ball Z: Vegeta's Armors From Worst To Best, Ranked

While he's usually sporting his iconic Saiyan armor, Vegeta has been through quite a few looks over the decades. While many of his looks aren't as radically different as someone like Gohan, Vegeta still has some stylish tricks up his sleeve. Some of these looks were great and others....not so great. Let's look at a few of some fits from both those corners.

10 LOVE: FIRST APPEARANCE ARMOR

Though it was the product of an early animation coloring error, no one can forget this iconic battle armor. It was our first sight of the Saiyan prince and would leave a mark on a generation of early viewers. While it was a mistake, there are many that actually prefer this look to the usual white armor.

In fact, many games such as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Dragon Ball Fighter Z pay homage to this animation error through different palette swaps. It's a costume that shouldn't have been but hasn't been forgotten.

9 Never Again: BASEBALL UNIFORM

Yeah, it's really great to see Vegeta in something other than his Saiyan armor but just..no. This design is really fun and different on Vegeta and it was nice to see once for a bit of filler. The fact that he chose this outfit so he could be on an opposing team to his rival, Goku, makes it even better.

While it leads to some great character moments, try to imagine seeing Vegeta fight an enemy in this. On second thought, let's see him fight in this just once, please.

8 Love: XENO VEGETA

If it ain't broke don't fix it. The Dragon Ball Heroes series is good for 2 things: Crazy fanservice and new outfits. This outfit for Vegeta is no exception. It's basically a remix on the tried and true upgraded Earth Saiyan armor with a few added bells and whistles.

RELATED: Dragon Ball: 10 Beatdowns Vegeta Should Have Never Survived

Notice the new wristbands around the gloves that serve no purpose other than style. The new tube-shaped straps have a cool look to them as well, but the best piece on this suit is definitely the brown spandex. Something about that color just compliments Vegeta and the brown armored pieces of the armor.

7 Never Again: VEGETA NAMEK ARMOR

This is the second version of the Saiyan armor we saw Vegeta rock in the series. During the Namek Saga Vegeta's style was definitely at its most dull. This armor isn't too offensive but there's not really anything going for it. Gone are the badass shoulder pads and the cool scouter and in is this goofy armor tank top.

In many ways, it is similar to Vegeta's future outfits, but there's really something missing without any straps going across the shoulders. Thankfully, Frieza made sure Vegeta would never wear this space trash again.

6 Love: VEGETA ANDROID SAGA

Now, this is Earth Saiyan Armor done right. We have Bulma to thank for this well-needed redesign on Vegeta's classic look. While much like the boring armor seen on Namek during the fight against Frieza, this armor has some cool belt-like straps going over the shoulders that add a hardened and more battle-ready look to the ensemble.

Other than the original Saiyan Armor, this is definitely Vegeta's most iconic battle suit. Probably the reason you see it as the default outfit for Vegeta in so many Dragon Ball videogames.

5 Never Again: VEGETA BUU SAGA

What if Vegeta took his cooler outfits and removed the armor? Oh, and there are no sleeves anymore either. That's all this look was. Yeah, it's the most logical evolution of Vegeta's design but we all know there's a reason that he's back in the armor during Dragon Ball Super.

RELATED: Dragon Ball: 10 Most Brutal Vegeta Quotes

Come to think of it, this look makes total sense. Vegeta had been losing pieces of his armor since his first appearance. First, the shoulder pads were removed and eventually the whole top. That explanation still doesn't make this outfit any cooler though.

4 Love: VEGETA BADMAN SHIRT

Was there any doubt that this shirt would be in the top 3 of this list? Once again, thank you Bulma for putting Vegeta in one of the most iconic fits of all time. This outfit isn't only iconic to Dragon Ball fans but one that many anime fans know, regardless of having watched the series or not.

We're not really sure if it's the spectacle of seeing Vegeta in a stylish '80s-esque button-up or the fact that the shirt is just plain cool, but we really love seeing Vegeta wear it. Good news, it's finally going to be a selectable outfit for Vegeta in the videogame Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

3 Never Again: XENO VEGITO

Does this outfit technically count? Well, it's at least half Vegeta, so we'll roll with it. This outfit is a far cry from the awesome original Vegito outfit and not in a good way. The outfit just does no favors visually and makes no sense.

Spandex shirt, Goku's gi pants, and for some reason, a sleeveless robe held together with Goku's belt. Yeah, it's not doing it like the original Vegito fit, especially with the color combo attacking the eyes. And don't even start on the Super Saiyan 4 version.

2 Love: VEGETA'S BROLY MOVIE JACKET

Since the movie's first trailer, this outfit stole the hearts of Dragon Ball fans everywhere. Immediately there were jackets being sold and tons of fanart being made. There's just something really cool about this really fashionable snow jacket and it really works on Vegeta.

Maybe it's the fact that it's an actual good looking jacket both inside and outside the anime. If you saw someone wearing this IRL, you'd give it a second look but you really can't hate. It's a really nice jacket with a cool '80s aesthetic.

1 Never Again: VEGETA GT CLOTHES

Nobody thought they'd see Vegeta in a brown tank top, leather vest, and leather pants. After watching Dragon Ball GT, most people probably prefer that was still the case. Not only does the outfit look ridiculous, but it gets an even further downgrade when Vegeta goes Super Saiyan 4 and grows a mullet and eyeliner to go along with it.

That said, the outfit kind of makes sense. Who else would look for clothes that make him look more badass even in old age but fails miserably other than Vegeta? Kind of fitting for our Saiyan Prince. Or need we forget the "I shaved my mustache you idiot!" line?

Demon Slayer: MBTI Of The Main Characters | CBR

Demon Slayer was the breakout anime hit of the year. The series follows a young Demon Slayer name Tanjiro Kamado whose family is killed and his younger sister Nezuko is turned into a demon. He and Nezuko travel in search of the demon that destroyed their family to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human.

RELATED: Demon Slayer: 10 Inspiring Quotes From The Anime

It's no surprise that a series like Demon Slayer has a large cast of memorable and unique characters, so why not see where some of the characters fit in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)? Let's take a look at the MBTI of the main characters in Demon Slayer.

10 Kanao Tsuyuri - ISTJ

Kanao Tsuyuri is the adoptive sister of and successor to Shinobu Kocho. Kanao is one of the more talented Demon Slayers in the series, but a childhood of enduring abuse has left her indecisive and quiet. She has trouble making decisions, so she flips a coin to decide which path to follow.

Kanao is an ISTJ. She's arguably the most introverted person in the series, but she's also analytical and hardworking, being able to get to the level of the pillars in a relatively short amount of time. Kanao also has trustworthy judgement in the field, as shown when Shinobu trusted her to find a way to defeat one of the Upper Moon demons.

9 Kagaya Ubuyashiki - INFJ

Kagaya Ubuyashiki, better known as "Oyakata-sama" by his followers and peers, is the soft-spoken leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, and a clear INFJ. He's a calm and gentle person, and he shows his compassion by learning the names of every Demon Slayer so as not to forget them when they die.

RELATED: Demon Slayer: 10 Reasons Why It's A Must-Watch Anime Series

Even though he can't fight because of a curse, his idealistic way of leading the Demon Slayer Corps has earned him the respect of the Pillars, which is a tough bunch to please. Kagaya was also the only one willing to accept Tanjiro's and Nezuko's situation when none of the pillars did.

8 Shinobu Kocho - ENTP

Next up is the Insect Pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu Kocho, who is an ENTP. In her youth, Shinobu was quite bold and brash, but during the series, she has taken on a much more laid-back personality, always with a smile on her face regardless of the situation.

Like other ENTPs, Shinobu displays an inventive, versatile, and strategic outlook that is on full display in her fighting style. Shinobu doesn't have the physical strength to decapitate a demon, so she had to find another way to be able to kill demons. To compensate for her lack of strength, Shinobu has her blade coated in wisteria poison, and now, she only needs a few quick slashes to kill a demon.

7 Giyu Tomioka - ISTJ

The very first Demon Slayer that Tanjiro meets is Giyu Tomioka, the Water Pillar. Giyu is a very reserved person (though he has a complex about what others think of him) and a strong sense of justice. He has no patience for people who throw away their lives and don't know their limitations.

We have Giyu pegged as an ISTJ. Aside from being reserved and analytical, Giyu is known for being trustworthy with good judgement. Even though he shows no hesitation when killing demons, Giyu spared Nezuko and even vouched for her's and Tanjiro's situation in front of the other Pillars.

6 Kyojuro Rengoku - ENFJ

The Flame Pillar Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the more eccentric members of the Pillars, and that's saying a lot. He's always cheerful and enthusiastic about his duties, and a lifetime of strict practice and discipline has made him an extraordinary Demon Slayer.

RELATED: Demon Slayer: 10 Facts You Didn't Know About The Nichirin Blade

Rengoku is definitely an ENFJ. He's caring and responsible, and he values connections with other people, which he demonstrated during the Demon Train Arc when he protects over 200 people from being killed and eaten by demons, even holding back one of the Upper Moon demons.

5 Inosuke Hashibira - ESTP

Next up is the undisputed "best boy" of the series, Inosuke Hashibira, who is an ESTP. Inosuke is a proud guy with a very short fuse who is constantly challenging people to fights to prove that he's the strongest. This makes him very outgoing, but maybe not in a good way.

Because you never know when or where he's going to challenge someone, he has the spontaneity of an ESTP, and to call Inosuke action-orient would be a severe understatement. He's always eager to charge headfirst into battle and usually solves his problems with his swords.

4 Zenitsu Agatsuma - ESFP

Zenitsu Agatsuma is a Demon Slayer who utilizes the Breath of Thunder style and lives in a constant state of fear. He has low self-esteem and is constantly insisting that he doesn't have long to live because of the dangers of being a Demon Slayer.

We feel that Zenitsu best fits into the ESFP personality type. Despite his cowardly nature, when the time calls for it, Zenitsu tries his hardest to help people, like other ESFPs. A good example of this is during the Drum House Arc where Zenitsu fights to protect a child even though he's terrified of the demons in the house.

3 Nezuko Kamado - ISFJ

Nezuko Kamado is Tanjiro's younger sister, who was turned into a demon after Muzan killed the rest of her family. As a demon, she doesn't quite have the same personality as she did when she was human, but it's near enough the same to fall into the same personality type.

RELATED: Demon Slayer: 5 Characters Nezuko Can Beat (& 5 She Can't)

Nezuko is an ISFJ. She's a kind and caring girl both before and after becoming a demon. Thanks to the influence of Sakonji Urokodaki, Nezuko now sees every human as a member of her family and is therefore very protective of humans.

2 Muzan Kibutsuji - ENTJ

The penultimate entry on this list goes to the main villain of the series, Muzan Kibutsuji. Muzan is the first of his kind and the only one who can turn humans into demons. He's a cold-hearted and ruthless monster, and we feel he fits best into the ENTJ personality type.

People who are ENTJs tend to be great strategic planners, something Muzan certainly is. He's also ambitious and efficient, seeking to find a way to conquer the sun by any means necessary while being able to blend into human society. Defeat is not something Muzan is familiar with, and when he's directly involved in a plot, you can be sure that one of his subordinates are.

1 Tanjiro Kamado - ENFJ

Capping off this list is Demon Slayer's main character, Tanjiro Kamado. Tanjiro is a kind person by nature, often being described as having gentle eyes. We feel that Tanjiro best exemplifies an ENFJ personality type. Not only is he kind and caring, but he also has an idealistic determination to achieve any goal he sets his mind to.

Perhaps Tanjiro's most notable trait that pegs him as an ENFJ is his ability to communicate and connect with people. He was not only able to break through Kanao's emotional walls and get her to start opening up, but he also empathizes with demons. He sees demons as victims and has been able to connect with some of them enough that they ask for forgiveness for their sins.

Brian K. Vaughan: 10 Iconic Comics That Prove He’s A Genius

$

0

Brian K. Vaughan is easily one of the most celebrated comic book authors of all time. With titles like Paper Girls, Y: the Last Man, and Saga especially, the author has a number of solid works under his belt. However, Vaughan’s excellent storytelling isn’t the only thing that readers like about him. In virtually all of his works, Vaughan digs deep into many real-world themes, often using his characters and stories to look at society, or whatever other issues he feels like addressing.

RELATED: 10 Best Image Comics Ever, Ranked

Even though these heavy themes are common in his works though, Vaughan still manages to tell a great story in the process. To celebrate how truly talented he is, here is our list of the 10 most brilliant Brian K. Vaughan comics that prove he’s a genius.

10 Runaways

One of the author’s more popular series is Runaways. Published under Marvel Comics, the series follows a group of young superpowered teens whose parents happen to be some of the worst supervillains in the universe. Not only did the comic series itself receive great praise, but it was popular enough to be adapted for live action several years later.

Centered around a teenaged cast, Vaughan successfully managed to capture not only a youthful voice but also distinct ones for each individual character. While the series itself isn’t full of the same deep and meaningful themes that are common in his other books, the fact that Vaughan can write these characters in this manner still proves his brilliance as a writer.

9 Batman

Hardcore Batman fans are familiar with the character Matches Malone. Serving as the criminal persona for Bruce Wayne, Matches’ reputation makes him one of the deadliest gang members in Gotham. Over the years, Bruce has used this alter ego as a means of gathering intel, infiltrating gangs, and so on.

Until Brian K. Vaughan came along though, no one knew exactly how Matches got his reputation in the first place. While this was a question many didn’t realize they needed to be answered, Vaughan does a truly fantastic job of working the backstory into the Batman mythos. Though it is not the best Batman story ever told, there is still a lot to appreciate about the story.

8 Swamp Thing

Many Swamp Thing fans were critical of Vaughan’s approach to the character. When the writer took over the title, he actually chose to focus more on Tefé Holland, Swamp Thing’s daughter. Most of the complaints were suggesting that the title character felt like a supporting character in his own series. However, Vaughan still chose to incorporate a lot of elements from older Swamp Thing stories.

In focusing on Tefé, Vaughan called back to certain pieces of Alan Moore’s run on the character and even Jamie Delano’s Hellblazer series. While it is understandable that a lack of Alec Holland would have some fans upset, Vaughan showed a great understanding of the character and his history in this series. Not only did he pull from obscure elements of the source material, but he was able to modernize them in an interesting way as well.

7 The Private Eye

Unlike the other series on this list, The Private Eye was published exclusively as a webcomic. Set in the not-so-far future, after “the cloud burst” everyone’s personal information has since become public knowledge. As a result of the massive leak, the internet is no longer a thing and people mask their true identities in public by wearing masks.

RELATED: The 10 Best Non-Marvel, Non-DC Stories Of The Decade

As the mystery of the series begins to unfold, readers are once again forced to take a look at modern society. Furthermore, seeing a future without the internet is a very unique and intriguing concept. For those who don’t mind reading electronic books, this is definitely one series that is worth checking out.

6 Pride of Baghdad

Published under DC’s Vertigo imprint, Pride of Baghdad is one of the author’s lesser-known stories. Based on a true story as well, Pride of Baghdad is easily one of the more politically-heavy stories that Vaughan has to offer.

When the U.S. invaded Baghdad in 2003, four lions managed to escape from a zoo there. Vaughan’s story follows these animals as they share a newfound freedom. However, as the animals come to wander the streets of Baghdad, each of them comes to possess a different view on the Iraq war. Similarly to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Pride of Baghdad does a fantastic job of using animals to draw out notes in human politics and practices. Though it is arguably not the author’s best story, Vaughan’s brilliance still shines through.

5 We Stand On Guard

Though We Stand On Guard isn’t the author’s most widely known work, it's still a fantastically written story, full of brilliance and all sorts of themes. Set in a future in which the United States begins to invade Canada, We Stand On Guard follows a small band of Canadian heroes as they fight to defend their home.

RELATED: 15 Image Comics Made For The Big Screen

Not only does the series feature great art from Steve Skroce, but it also features a lot of great political commentary. With the book releasing during 2015, Vaughan definitely hits on a lot of relevant points. Even without the commentary and other themes though, We Stand On Guard is still a great read. However, its brilliance comes from the parallels that Vaughan draws to today’s society.

4 Paper Girls

The recently-concluded Paper Girls was one of the highest-rated Image titles in recent years. Though it is often described as a “female Stranger Things,” there are still plenty of things that set the story apart and make it great in its own way.

With a much heavier sci-fi element than the Netflix series, Paper Girls builds a fantastic world involving monsters and time travel. Furthermore, Vaughan proves once again that he can still capture youthful voices, as almost every cast member is very believable. With great art from Cliff Chang as well, Paper Girls is easily one of the author’s most brilliant series.

3 Ex Machina

Ex Machina is centered around Mitchell Hundred, a character formerly known as the hero, The Great Machine. With tech-based superpowers, the hero has put aside his costume with hopes of becoming Mayor of New York City. Thanks to Mitchell’s actions on 9/11 however, he proves to be a very popular candidate.

What makes Ex Machina so great is that it is a truly fantastic representation of a post 9/11 society. With all new attitudes towards art, politics, and good and evil, Mitchell’s journey in both the past and the present raise a lot of good questions about how attitudes have since shifted. While Ex Machina isn’t the author’s most popular series, it is easily one of the best that he has yet to put out.

2 Y: The Last Man

After everything on the planet with a Y chromosome suddenly drops dead, Yorick Brown and his pet monkey, Ampersand, find themselves as the only males left alive on the planet. Suddenly thrust into the apocalypse, the duo must do what they can to survive in a world filled with just women.

RELATED: The 10 Most Heartbreaking Moments In Y: The Last Man

While the premise is certainly very interesting, Y: The Last Man does a lot to look at and analyze various gender roles. Seeing how some women react to the event is very interesting and provides an interesting look at the role they play in modern society. Likewise, the absence of men in this story also successfully draws attention to their roles. While the book also does a great job of letting readers form their own opinions, it is easily one of the most brilliant things Vaughan has yet to write.

1 Saga

Saga is brilliant not only in the way that it is written, but in its themes as well. Following a family who is caught in a never ending war, Saga somehow manages to combine elements of virtually every genre imaginable. With a perfect balance of sci-fi, fantasy, western, horror, thriller, adventure, etc, Saga is wonderfully weird with a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Going beyond the structure of the story though, Saga is packed full of various themes that are anti-war, in support of family and kindness, against racism, and many more. Because of this, it is really easy to see why a story like this could fall apart, simply because it is too packed. However, Brian K. Vaughan somehow found a way to make everything work within the wonderful world he has created. Because of the brilliant nature of Saga alone, it is easy to see why the series has received such high praise.

5 Marvel Heroes You Didn't Know Had Kids (And 5 You Totally Did)

$
0
0

The superhero life isn't exactly conducive to having a family. Our favorite Marvel heroes just don't have time in between all the saving the world. And then there's the danger of having a family when you're a target for supervillains. Kids are perfect for kidnapping, unfortunately. Despite all this, some heroes have made it work.

RELATED: 10 Children Of Marvel Superheroes Who've Become More Powerful Than Their Parents

Whether they've gone the dating and marriage route or whether it's been out of their hands, everyone on this list has had a child of their own, if you realized or not. Many of these kids have been gifted with powers and followed in their parents' footsteps. A few ended up simply fending for themselves. And one, well, you'll just have to read on.

10 Knew: Ant-Man (Scott Lang)

Cassie Lang was made a household name as Scott Lang's daughter in the Ant Man films in which she appeared as a child and then a teenager post-Avengers: Endgame. In the comics, however, Cassie grew up to be a member of the Young Avengers known as Stature.

Cassie had been taking Pym Particles for years. They gave her the power to shrink and grow much like her father. Most recently Cassie was known as Stinger, part of a superhero duo with her father, after she (at her mother's urging) attempted to resume normal, non-superhero life.

9 Didn't Know: The Scarlet Witch & Vision

You may remember when Wanda Maximoff used her magic to create twin baby boys for herself and Vision. You may recall that the loss of her sons caused her breakdown that ultimately led to the events in House of M. What you may not know, though, is that these twin boys were reincarnated into the Young Avengers Wiccan and Speed.

Billy Kaplan, known as Wiccan, has a variety of powers including tele and electrokinesis. Tommy Shepherd, known as Speed, has powers much like his uncle Quicksilver. Yep, you guessed it: superspeed. Billy is presently engaged to Teddy Altman, the Hulkling. Both were on the New Avengers during Secret Empire, while Tommy has been traveling.

8 Knew: Professor X

It's unsurprising that Charles Xavier, Professor X himself, fathered one of the most powerful mutants of all time. David Haller, known as Legion, contains as many as two hundred personalities each with their own powerful ability.

RELATED: Legion's 10 Most Powerful Personalities Ranked

David struggles to keep all these personalities under control, but with only partial success. Many times one has broken free and he has had to do damage control on his relationships, the world, and reality itself. He has spent plenty of time in both hospitals and prisons. Legion's heart is in the right place, but his mind doesn't always comply.

7 Didn't Know: Jessica Jones & Luke Cage

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have had a long and winding road together. From nights here and there spent together, to moving in, and now to parenthood. After a kidnapping by Hydra, Jessica Jones gave birth to their daughter Danielle. Jones and Cage married shortly after Dani's birth.

Danielle is still a child, so we have yet to see if she develops any of the powers of her parents. Presently her nanny is Squirrel Girl because her parents have gone back to work, so she's getting plenty of exposure to superheroes.

6 Knew: Wolverine

Also popularized in the film is Wolverine's daughter Laura Kinney. Part of a program attempting to recreate Weapon X, Laura came into being when Dr. Sarah Kinney combined her own genetic material with Wolverine's to fix the failures of the botched male clones.

The doctor in charge of the project punished Dr. Kinney for her insubordination by making her carry Laura's embryo herself. Thus, X-23 was born. Though raised to be a weapon, Laura forged her own path. She ended up a member of X-Force and became a hero in her own way.

5 Didn't Know: Spider-Woman

Jessica Drew has a baby son named Gerry. Despite a barrage of pleas from her friends, Jessica hasn't revealed the identity of Gerry's father. Born during a Skrull invasion of a hospital inside a black hole, Gerry was special from the very beginning.

So far he's shown his inheritance of super strength, speed, and agility from his mother. Even now he's powerful enough to get the drop on Black Widow and leave a bruise. After his birth, his mother got right back to superhero duties within minutes. She hasn't really stopped since. While Spider-Woman is at work, Porcupine babysits little Gerry.

4 Knew: Cyclops

Scott Summers once married a clone of Jean Grey named Madeline Pryor. Scott didn't know she was a clone but fell in love with her Jean-like qualities. They had a son together named Nathan, who was ultimately taken to a dystopian, future Earth and became the mutant we now know as Cable.

Cable is a powerful telepath, but for most of his life has been distracted trying to prevent a virus from turning his body into mechanical material. He himself knows little but war. A one-time weapons dealer, he hops around time and space, ultimately joining X-Force.

3 Didn't Know: Captain/Ms. Marvel

Now we come to the most troubling of the superhero kid stories. In 1980, Marvel ran a storyline in which Carol Danvers, then Ms. Marvel, is impregnated in Limbo by Marcus Immortus. She's not impregnated with his son, though, but with himself. She's then transported back to her reality and gives birth to Marcus himself, freeing him from the timelessness of Limbo.

RELATED: The 5 Most Powerful Young Avengers (& The 5 Weakest)

Marcus experienced accelerated aging and was soon able to plot against the Avengers himself, who then banished him back to Limbo. He took Carol with him, but his rapid aging continued until he turned to dust and Carol was free to find her way back to her timeline.

2 Didn't Know: The Hulk

During the events of Planet Hulk, Bruce Banner married Caiera of Sakaar and had a son named Skaar. Skaar did not inherit power from his father but did inherit the ability to wield the Old Power of earth and stone from his mother.

He was a savage warrior, often acting out of revenge. Skaar and Bruce had a deeply complicated relationship as father and son. Bruce, as Doc Green, is the one to depower Skaar in the end so he can live a simple life as a hunter in the mountains.

1 Knew: Mr. Fantastic & The Invisible Woman

Reed Richards and Susan Storm have arguably one of the most lasting relationships in Marvel Comics history. They have a son, Franklin, who received powers from the same cosmic radiation that affected his parents and essentially created The Fantastic Four.

Franklin is so powerful, in fact, that his father once kept him comatose to prevent his power from destroying Earth. Franklin is learning to control his powers as he grows up. Given that he can rearrange matter itself, he's on par with the Celestials, so if he doesn't learn to control himself, we're all in trouble.

Dragon Ball Super: These Non-Canon Villains Should Get the Broly Treatment

$
0
0

When it it was revealed the first post-series Dragon Ball Super film would feature Broly, many fans had concerns. Broly appeared prior in three Dragon Ball Z films and proved hugely popular in his first film, Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan. That popularity led to two follow-up films, which were less well-received. Many fans grew bored of how Broly became less nuanced in each film. Broly was never an interesting character, but by the time he returns as a bio-genetic clone who dissolves in water, the Legendary Super Saiyan had become a joke. Yet Dragon Ball Super: Broly proved Broly could be a fascinating, compelling antagonist despite those earlier mistakes.

This success then begged the question: what other non-canon villains could be reincorporated into Dragon Ball Super in an effective, interesting way? Even more so, which villains would work?

RELATED: Dragon Ball Super's Moro Just Made a Classic, Costly Error

Of all the non-canon villains who could return, the one with the biggest chance of making a comeback is Cooler.

Cooler is one of the most beloved Dragon Ball Z movie villains. He's appeared in a ton of video games and his design is unforgettable. He is the only Dragon Ball Z movie villain, other than Broly, to have a second film. He fights Goku not out of a particular grudge toward Goku, but rather because of his rivalry with Frieza. This rivalry allows Cooler to let baby Goku escape from Planet Vegeta to spite Frieza. He fights Goku to beat the man who defeated his brother. This motivation is so petty and fascinating.

RELATED: Dragon Ball & Dr. Slump: How Toriyama Created His Own Crossover Universe

The main issue with a lot of memorable non-canon villains in Dragon Ball is that they appeared in earlier periods of Dragon Ball -- periods where the heroes were far less powerful. Cooler stands toe-to-toe with Super Saiyan Goku in the immediate aftermath of the Frieza Saga and almost kills the hero before the Cell Saga. This same Cooler would now be beaten in one-punch by Super Saiyan Blue Goku.

However, this problem no longer exists if Cooler were introduced in Dragon Ball Super. One thing we learn about Frieza in Dragon Ball Super is that, if he were to train for even a little while, he'd match Goku in terms of raw power. What if Frieza's brother traveled far, far away, trained, and returned home to be on-par with modern Frieza? That raw amount of power puts him on par with Goku.

Of all the villains Dragon Ball Super could incorporate, Cooler would be the easiest. He is part of a family we are already familiar with.

Bojack Unbound is one of the more well-liked Dragon Ball Z movies, though this has very little to do with its titular villain. This is a shame, since Bojack and his crew have the potential to be fascinating villains. Bojack and his pirate crew are sealed away within a star by the four Kais. When King Kai's planet was destroyed by Cell, that seal broke, allowing Bojack to escape.

Bojack's crew can create a network of interesting villains, all of whom are underdeveloped in the film proper, but, given more time, might become more interesting antagonists. Looking at the pirate team's dynamic as well as how and why they came to join Bojack could make for an interesting story.

Bojack was sealed away potentially thousands of years prior. What makes this potentially more interesting is how Bojack might have trouble acclimating to the new era and the changes that have taken place. This could potentially result in more Dragon Ball history being revealed, particularly about old societies that have risen and fallen. Bojack can provide a real interesting insight into Dragon Ball's past, and it would be interesting to have him return.

Lord Slug isn't a fan favorite villain at all, and that's honestly a shame. Namek is a big part of Dragon Ball lore, but ever since the Cell Saga, the planet has proven increasingly less relevant. Sure, the Namekian Dragon Balls helped save the day in the Buu Saga, but they've barely been mentioned in Dragon Ball Super.

Lord Slug, in the original film, was one of the Super Namekians -- a tribe banished for breaking tradition. In the film, this is due to them gaining the ability to grow super large (a technique Piccolo himself used in Dragon Ball). However, what if that break from tradition was more severe and tied into the very lore of the Dragon Balls themselves?

There are a lot of ways Lord Slug can be re-imagined. The first time Lord Slug appeared, he didn't get enough time to shine. Perhaps this time he can evolve into something truly interesting.

Tuffles are a race that lived on Planet Vegeta before the Saiyans took over. This ancient race has appeared multiple times across Dragon Ball history, yet never did their full potential full appear. These are a disenfranchised people, stuck without a world thanks to the actions of the Saiyan race. The sins of the fathers will be paid onto the sons, with the descendants of the Tuffles taking vengeance on Goku and the others -- perhaps thanks to a little genetic modification.

Tuffles, it must be said, did appear during Dragon Ball Super's Tournament of Power, but perhaps Dragon Ball Super can return to a few prior non-canon Dragon Ball Tuffle villains in order to maximize their potential.

Previous Tuffle antagonists included Dr. Lychee and Hatchiyack from The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans and Baby from Dragon Ball GT. Both have the potential to be truly dangerous antagonists, especially Baby, whose body swapping abilities can prove absolutely devastating in the open-multiverse of Dragon Ball Super. What if Baby overtook the body of Beerus -- or worse, Zeno?

RELATED: Dragon Ball: Every Time Goku Lost a Martial Arts Tournament

Arguably the greatest concept Dragon Ball GT ever presented was that of the Shadow Dragons. What better antagonist to serve as Dragon Ball's final antagonist than the very Balls they've relied on all this time? With each wish, a dosage of negative energy fills the balls. Due to Goku and friends' overuse throughout the series, the Dragon Balls have overloaded. The subsequent meltdown results in each Dragon Ball becoming a sentient Dragon.

The concept's huge potential was mostly squandered in Dragon Ball GT, but in Super it could potentially serve as something truly special: the heroes forced to confront the sins of their past in an epic battle. Even more interesting, it could prove to dive even deeper into Dragon Ball lore, considering now we know about the existence of the Super Dragon Balls.

Regardless, of all the Shadow Dragons, Omega Shenron remains one of the most memorable and visually spectacular villains in all of Dragon Ball GT. To see him return, this time on par with the literal Super Saiyan Gods, would be a treat to the eyes.

Crisis on Infintie Earths Photo Shows Routh's Superman Choking Hoechlin

Brandon Routh's Kingdom Come Superman doesn't look too pleased to meet Tyler Hoechlin's Man of Steel in the latest photo from "Crisis on Infinite Earths."

Judging by some previously released stills, the photo appears to take place on Kingdom Come Superman's Earth, where he is the Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Planet. Kingdom Come Superman's face is a mask of rage as he grips his doppelganger by the throat in front of an article about an attack on the Daily Planet offices. Both Supermen gaze off-screen, which means someone could be trying to talk him down from whatever he plans to do.

RELATED: Crisis’ Final Trailer Kills Heroes and Destroys At Least One Earth

In the final trailer for the upcoming crossover event, Hoechlin's Superman is charged with an important role: "The entire universe needs you." Though the trailer doesn't come out and say exactly what that is, he can be seen trying to recruit Smallville's own Superman, Tom Welling. This suggests he may be looking for other Supermen to help save the mutliverse from utter destruction, which will likely lead him to this violent moment with Kingdom Come Superman.

As it were, Kingdom Come Superman doesn't look too thrilled to see an alternate-world version of himself. Of course, Kingdom Come Superman is much older and has seen more than the one Tyler Hoechlin plays, which could factor into this response. You'd probably be unsettled to see a different version of yourself, too.

"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will conclude on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Arrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Arrow: Lian Yu Is the Perfect Place to End Oliver Queen's Journey

Since the start of Arrow's final season, Oliver Queen has been following the commands of the Monitor. At the behest of the all-powerful cosmic being, Oliver traveled to Earth-2 to collect dwarf star particles, and he later went to Hong Kong to secure the life of a scientist. Then, Oliver went on a mission of his own to learn more about the Monitor, and maybe even defy him. This quest led him to face the League of Assassins, as well as the Russian Bratva.

Throughout this final season, Oliver has revisited the places, the stories and the people that were respective to his entire arc on the series, from the fight against Ra's Al Ghul in Season 3 to his time in Russia examined in Season 5. Now, the series' next episode is just around the corner and, in some ways, it will mark the end of Oliver's journey. After all, the episode after this will take place during the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, and the one after this will focus solely on Mia Smoak's upcoming spinoff Green Arrow and the Canaries. Then, it will be time for the series finale. Therefore, this Tuesday's "Purgatory" will mark the end of the road, at least on a certain level.

Therefore, it's absolutely fitting that the episode brings Oliver back to Lian Yu, the island where he spent his formative years. After all, this is where it all began.

RELATED: Team Arrow Returns To 'Purgatory' In New Photos

Back when there was no Flash, no Monitor and no Arrowverse, there was just Oliver Queen and his bow. When Arrow began in 2012, each episode of its first two seasons showed us the literal hell the character went through on the island he was marooned on after the Queen's Gambit's fateful crash at sea. There, Oliver not only learned to survive, he developed a keen sense of right and wrong. Throughout his time on the island, he learned to shoot a bow from Yao Fei, he became a skilled fighter thanks to Slade Wilson and he first became a hero after taking on the likes of Edward Fyers and Doctor Ivo.

While all of his five years away weren't spent on the island, Lian Yu would always pull Oliver back one way or another. The place holds such an importance that the series would even take viewers back to the island in the present. In fact, it's where Oliver retreated to after his defeat against the Dark Archer; it's the place Slade Wilson was locked up after his failed attempt to destroy Star City; it's also where Adrian Chase would take Oliver and all those he loves for the pair's climactic confrontation; and it's where Roy and William would, 20 years in the future, meet.

Both in the past and the present, and throughout nearly all of Arrow's seasons, Lian Yu has been a place of significance. It's a place that symbolizes rebirth. It's where Oliver's mission began, and where the Green Arrow was born. Now, as the final season of the series has taken Oliver on missions that echo back to what he has been through before, it makes sense that the final place the character would return to is Lian Yu. Now, everything comes full circle.

But this time, Oliver isn't alone on his island. No, this time, he's got his family -- his team -- with him. It's a testament to the growth not only of the character, but the series itself, which became something much bigger than any of us (or Oliver himself) could have foreseen back in Season 1. And now, it's time for it all to end.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, Arrow's final season stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Rick Gonzalez as Wild Dog, Juliana Harkavy as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy as Black Siren, Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke and Ben Lewis as William Clayton-Queen.

Supergirl Set Photo Teases a Major Plot Twist for Episode 100

A new set photo for Supergirl's 100th episode may give away a major plot development for Melissa Benoist's Kara Danvers.

A photo from the thirteenth episode of Season 5 features Kara in an outdoor press conference opening her jacket to reveal her Supergirl super-suit underneath, as reporters hurry to get a photo of the scene. Commenters on the Twitter thread of @yvrshoots state the scene comes from Supergirl's 100th episode, titled "It's a Super Life," which could mean the historic episode will take place in an alternate timeline or reality.

RELATED: Supergirl Brings Character Back from the Dead for Crisis on Infinite Earths

If this is indeed the main Arrowverse timeline, then this scene could play into the developments from the Season 5 premiere, when Lena Luthor intended to reveal Supergirl's secret identity to the public. Lena recently confessed her plans, so this may be tied to Lena either blackmailing Kara or her doing this to prove a point to Lena as a show of good faith.

ET/PT.

Big Daddy Funko Pop! Brings Scuba Sam To Life | CBR

Funko announced a new Pop! figure inspired by a character of sorts from the 1999 Adam Sandler movie Big Daddy: Scuba Sam. In the film, Sandler's character Sonny takes up the mantle of Scuba Sam -- the "father" of an in-universe action figure -- to motivate his "son" Julian to bathe and study.

The figure, announced on Funko's blog, is expected to arrive in July 2020, so it won't be available for any of the ongoing Funko Pop! Black Friday deals.

Big Daddy was released at the height of Sandler's comedic film career, coming hot on the heels of other classics like Waterboy and The Wedding Singer. However, his later films would become less beloved as the 2000s rolled around.

Funko also recently announced a new line of Star Wars and Marvel figures to celebrate the launch of Disney+, and fans can round out their collections with other obscure Pop! figures such as Bob Ross and White Walker Conan O'Brien.

With the release of the Scuba Sam figure, though, collectors can relive that brief period in the '90s when Sandler was one of the kings of comedy.

Marvel's Most Powerful Cosmic Hero Executed an Enemy With His [SPOILER]

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Avengers #27 by Jason Aaron, Ed McGuinness, Mark Morales, Jason Keith, VC’s Cory Petit, Val Staples, Nick Bradshaw, and Rachele Rosenberg, on sale now.

Since his introduction in X-Men #107, Gladiator has been one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe. A staunch member of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard, he's gone toe-to-toe against powerhouses such as The Thing, Rogue, Juggernaut and even Thanos.

With his magnitude of strength and power, every part of his body is a potential weapon, a principle that rings true for Kallark's unfortunate victim in Avengers #27, where all it took to obliterate his opponent was... hocking a loogie.

RELATED: The Avengers' Space Mission Heralds the Return of a Cosmic Superhero

The issue begins with Gladiator, the Majestor of the Shi'ar Empire, assessing a tragic situation concerning an intergalactic prison. The source of the explosion is determined as a transport ship, one which contained new prisoners intended for the jail. One of the few survivors of the incident arrived via an escape pod. This survivor was a stowaway member of the parasitic Brood species, who had previously been convicted of merely being a Broodling.

The Broodling's translated -- yet still animalistic -- dialogue with Gladiator is meant as a threat to the Shi'ar, and his venom-tipped words take on a literal meaning when he spits his acidic bile onto Gladiator. Though his suit has a small burn, Gladiator is otherwise unphased, taking the time to reevaluate the Broodling's life sentence. Shifting this life sentence into a death sentence, Gladiator mercilessly and effortlessly executes the creature.

The method? Spitting at him.

Gladiator summons a rather thin spitball to spew in the Broodling's direction, and the next panel shows the Brood member's collapsed bleeding body. It's almost unclear that it was the spitball that killed him, all save for the rather large "bullet hole" in the middle of his head. The curled-up form of his body suggests that the Broodling's brain took a direct hit, instantly killing him.

RELATED: Who Would Win In A Fight: Avengers Or Justice League?

Gladiator's immense powers stem from his alien biology, giving him incredible strength, endurance, durability, speed and flight. The editorial origin of the character explains his humbling array of abilities: The Imperial Guard is made up of characters based off of DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes, and Gladiator was specifically based off of the young Superman, Superboy. Even his real name, Kallark, is a combination of Superman's names: Kal-El and Clark Kent.

Being based on the Pre-Crisis -- and arguably overpowered version of the character -- meant that his powers could essentially encompass whatever the plot required. Gladiator has, in the past, ripped apart black holes and taken full force attacks from the likes of Thor, Odin and the Phoenix Force itself! With all of that raw power, it's actually not much of a stretch that any of his body parts or, for that matter, bodily fluids could be weaponized with ease.

Given his various vision-based powers, it also makes sense that he could target and direct such a projectile with as much precision as he displays in Avengers #27. Hopefully, for his other enemies' sake, the alien doesn't sneeze anytime soon.

The Star Wars franchise has seen feature films, live-action series and a bounty of animated fare, but never a game show. However, that's about to change thanks to Disney+.

StarWars.com has revealed that Jar Jar Bink actor Ahmed Best will return to a galaxy far, far away to host Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge, a game show that "will test young contestants’ abilities in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery as they face thrilling and fun obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight!"

"This is definitely a kids game show like no other," Lucasfilm Senior Director of Online Content & Programming Mickey Capoferri said. "The various challenges will test a Padawan’s connection to the Force in three locations — a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser, and inside a Jedi temple — immersing them and the audience in a fun, humorous, and exciting competition."

"Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge brings together the best of Star Wars — competitive spirit, harrowing obstacles and a hero’s triumph over challenges — in a totally new format for the franchise," Disney+ Vice President, Originals -- Unscripted Content Dan Silver added. "A game show set in the Star Wars galaxy is a perfect fit for Disney+."

Best will fill the role of Jedi Master, acting as a mentor to the show's contestants. The series is developed by Lucasfilm’s Scott Bromley and Steve Blank, executive produced by Capoferri, Christine Beebe, Dean Houser, David Chamberlin and Mike Antinoro and produced by Lucasfilm and Endeavor Content’s non-scripted group.

Marvel’s Mystery X-Men Team Recruits Psylocke and Havok | CBR

Marvel Comics has revealed the first two members of the X-Men's new mystery team: Psylocke and Havok.

After releasing a silhouetted teaser cover yesterday for what was billed as "the most dysfunctional X-Men team you could possibly imagine," Marvel revealed that each day this week a new member of the team would be displayed on the Marvel Twitter account. Today's reveal of Psylocke and Havok comes with the caption, "A team of mutants like you've never seen before. Coming March 2020. First up, Psylocke and Havok. Can these two keep Krakoa's troublemakers in line? #MarvelComics"

RELATED: Excalibur's New Recruit Is Having Major Issues With His Mutant Powers

The last line regarding these X-Men helping to keep Krakoa's troublemakers in line is our first clue as to the mission statement for this mysterious team. Krakoa's defenses were recently breached in X-Force #1, resulting in a team of assassins killing Charles Xavier. Perhaps this new "dysfunctional" X-Men team is formed in the aftermath of Professor X's assassination?

Havok recently led a team of X-Men in Matthew Rosenberg's run on Astonishing X-Men, with Alex Summers following Rosenberg over to Uncanny X-Men. Havok was one of the many characters to die in Uncanny X-Men in the lead-up to Jonathan Hickman's House of X and Powers of X.

As for Psylocke, Kwannon is finally back in possession of her body after having Betsy Braddock occupy it for the last several years. Psylocke headlines the Fallen Angels Dawn of X series alongside X-23 and Kid Cable.

Stay tuned to CBR each day this week as members of this mysterious, dysfunctional X-Men team are revealed.

With less than a year until the release of Marvel Studios' first Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, a leaked set photo has revealed the Marvel Cinematic Universe has yet to recover from Thanos' devasting snap.

The image shows an advertisement for "Samson Development," followed by the phrase, "Rebuilding Your City After The Blip." Although Marvel initially referred to the snap as the Devastation, Spider-Man: Far From Home established that the moment those who were snapped away returned was called the Blip.

This newest photo arrives shortly after a previous set of images showcasing an Easter egg for Marvel's Battlestar.

Beyond just addressing the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, the existence of Samson Development may prove the company has taken the place of Tony Stark's Damage Control initiative since the Iron Avenger's heroic death. In the MCU, Stark created Damage Control following the Battle of New York in 2012's The Avengers, the purpose of which was to assist in rebuilding after superhero-related catastrophes.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell and Daniel Brühl and will be available on Disney+ in fall 2020.
