Acclaimed independent comic book creator Joshua Luna has publicly revealed why he is estranged from his brother and former artistic collaborator Jonathan Luna, alleging decades of manipulation and abuse by his sibling.
In a lengthy Twitter thread, Joshua Luna claimed his brother unfairly negotiated contracts for joint projects between the two in his own financial favor. In addition to claiming Jonathan attempted to trap him within a shared condominium to force them to continue living together and discouraging him from establishing his own professional contacts, Joshua alleged Jonathan physically accosted him multiple times at home and at comic book conventions.
The allegations come shortly after the debut of Jonathan Luna's latest Image Comics series 20xx, co-created with Lauren Keely. In response, Jonathan has since released his own statement on Twitter, describing himself as "not a perfect person" while adding that his brother twisted their history to serve himself.
The Luna Brothers co-created the Image Comics series Girls, Ultra and The Sword before splitting, with Joshua serving as the sole creator of the Image title Whispers in 2012. Prior to their estrangement, they provided artwork for Spider-Woman: Origin for Marvel Comics, with Joshua alleging that Jonathan denied him thousands of dollars in royalties for the title.
