Star Wars: The Last Jedi was controversial amongst fans for several reasons, with some praising the film and others disappointed with some of its decisions. Apparently, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star John Boyega also had some gripes with the film.
In an interview with Hypebeast, Boyega said, "The Force Awakens I think was the beginning of something quite solid, The Last Jedi if I'm being honest I'd say that was feeling a bit iffy to me." He elaborated on his comments, adding, "I didn't necessarily agree with a lot of the choices in that and that's something that spoke to Mark [Hamill] a lot about and we had conversations about it. And it was hard for all of us, because we were separated."
Finn, Rey and Poe, the tri0 of the current Star Wars films, were separated for the whole movie, each following different plotlines. Many fans also took issue with Luke Skywalker's role in the film, which they felt was a departure from his previous character development.
Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi was so polarizing that at one point, a petition was circling to get the film stricken from the official Star Wars canon.
Fortunately for Boyega, Finn will reappear in the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and he will be reunited with his on-screen friends, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe (Oscar Isaac).
Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film arrives on Dec. 20.
