The man known as the heroes' hero, the strongest man on earth, and the hero feared by all. The godlike savior of the earth that these titles belong to is, of course, none other than One-Punch Man's S-Class Rank 7 hero King, the user of the powerful King Engine!
You may think you know everything about King but there's much more to him besides his love of videogames, waifus, and "saving the universe" with a simple stare. If you want to know more about the superhuman that defeated a monster by complete accident then stay tuned and keep reading.
10 HE IS VERY POPULAR
From time to time, Young Jump, the magazine that publishes the One-Punch Man comic, issues character popularity polls featuring the manga of the magazine. Since the manga premiered in Young Jump, King hasn't been too far from the top much to the surprise of many.
In the series's first popularity poll, King sat at a comfy 8th place and in the most recent third poll he moved down a few spots to 12th place. It wouldn't be too surprising to see him shoot back up as more of his "abilities" are shown as the series continues.
9 HIS RECOMMENDED READING IS BY THE SERIES' CREATOR
In episode six of the One-Punch Man anime, King recommends a certain book titled "How I Developed Indomitable Will" that many wouldn't catch unless they've read the manga and webcomic beforehand.
If you look closely (and can read Japanese text) you'll find that the author of this novel is the series creator ONE and the illustrator is none other than the illustrator of the One-Punch Man manga spinoff, Yusuke Murata. After finding this out, it's no wonder King is the strongest hero on the planet, he takes his advice straight from the creator of his universe.
8 HE IS POPULAR IN HIS OWN UNIVERSE AS WELL
In a NicoNico interview with the series creator ONE, he confirmed that King is one of the most popular heroes not only in our real-world universe but in his own universe as well. In fact, while the most popular hero in the world of Saitama and the rest of the Hero Organization is Sweet Mask, King isn't trailing too far behind.
Was there really ever any doubt about this fact? He's already the hero everyone believes he is. If he keeps at it sooner or later Sweet Mask is going to need to start watching his back, because the King Engine stops for absolutely nothing.
7 THE HERO ASSOCIATION BELIEVES THAT KING Killed SOME POWERFUL ENEMIES
The Hero Association is under the assumption that King killed the enemies Vaccine Man, Elder Centipede (whom he's believed to have disintegrated with ease), and Marugori/Beefcake (two villains that we saw Saitama take out in the first episode and chapter of One-Punch Man). These are all enemies with a Disaster Level of Demon or Dragon.
They also are under the belief that King is the strongest of all heroes on the planet physically and is on another level when compared to Tanktop Master, Darkshine, and more. This isn't the extent of the beliefs and words going around the Hero Association as there are tons of rumors circulating as well.
6 KING's RUMORED FEATS ARE IMPRESSIVE
Rumors concerning King are quite flattering. For example, Darkshine is heavily under the belief that King could kill Tatsumaki.
Other rumors surrounding King suggest that he can time travel and once did so to destroy meteors before they hit the Earth and that he possesses the ability to unleash an attack titled "The King Style Energy Wave: Ultimate Hellfire Burst Wave-Motion Cannon" that has so much power that even a monster immune to physical attacks wouldn't be able to withstand it.
King is also believed to have swordsmanship skills that rival and can even overshadow that of the samurai hero Atomic Samurai, as he's cut an apple so "fast" that Atomic failed to even notice.
5 HE IS A HERO OF "LEGEND"
The population of the One-Punch Man universe has spread a tale from long ago. A tale of a hero destined to emerge and protect the Earth from oncoming threats whether they be Wolf or God Disaster Level threats. This legend has been foretold from generation to generation, hidden in other legends. The legend in question details and teases the Earth on the coming of their greatest hero, King.
This legend was revealed in chapter 111 of the webcomic when King comes out with the truth about his power to Bang.
4 THE KING ENGINE IS NOT A SOUND EFFECT
The legendary King Engine is a rumbling sound that is heard when King readies for battle. In the face of a serious opponent, this sound is heard due to King taking a serious stance against said threat.
The sound effect you hear before King unleashes the power of the King Engine is in fact just his heartbeat. It isn't a sound effect at all. This sound effect is just King's voice actor and isn't a sound effect in the first place. So it's a voice, pretending to be a sound effect, that's pretending to be a sound effect. Kind of confusing.
3 HE LOVES SILENCE & BEING ALONE
While King's duties involve sticking to the streets and making sure that the world is protected, that's not his preferred spot. The One-Punch Man Encyclopedia says that our hero loves silence and peace while also hating crowds and noise.
This leaves the perfect place for him to be in isolated places with no noise. This could be why he spends so much time in the comfort of his home playing videogames. Many believe that in this isolated location he fortifies his body and soul while training.
2 KING IS INSPIRED BY WESTERNERS
During a One-Punch Man focused stream on December 12, 2015, from the manga's illustrator, Yusuke Murata, it was stated that King is the most westerner based character in the series. One viewer stated that Genos resembled a westerner, to which Murata responded, "King is more like it" with a chuckle.
Perhaps, this explains King's funny gaming and waifu loving nature. If so, he's definitely become a fan favorite weeaboo to viewers and readers everywhere.
1 KING IS THE ONLY HERO TO KILL A MONSTER FROM SHEER INTIMIDATION
Unlike other heroes that need to actually act to defeat enemies, King is able to kill monsters with the simple power of intimidation. His reputation precedes him so much that on more than one occasion, he has been seen scaring off foes with nothing but a stare and the sound of the King Engine.
King's enemies know once they get a glimpse of that signature glare, their life is over and King's power is about to be unleashed.
