Following Earth-2's destruction in the Season 8 premiere of Arrow, many viewers were left wondering when the effect of this major loss would be felt across the greater Arrowverse. Now, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" showrunner Marc Guggenheim has finally provided an answer.
When asked by a fan on Twitter why Earth-2 was destroyed so soon before the crossover, Guggenheim offered the simple response, "Watch Hour 3."
Guggenheim's response reflects earlier statements made regarding when The Flash and his allies would learn about the destruction of Earth-2, which confirmed it would happen during the crossover.
Earth-2 was first introduced in Season 2 of The Flash as the home of the villainous Zoom, Harrison "Harry" Wells, Jesse Wells/Jesse Quick and Black Siren, a villainous counterpart to Earth-1's Black Canary who gradually developed into a heroic character before assuming the Black Canary mantle.
This alternate world continued to be a mainstay element of The Flash in its subsequent seasons before meeting its end when it was consumed by a wave of antimatter, the first casualty in the lead up to "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will conclude on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Arrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
