With the premiere of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" this weekend, the status quo of the Arrowverse hangs in the balance, as the superheroes from the various shows come together to save the DCTV Multiverse.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim looked for inspiration in crafting the crossover's story from the landmark comic book story by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. This included the elevated stakes and dramatic changes to the shared universe's status quo, like the death of several prominent heroes.
"One of the things the comic always promised was that ‘Worlds will live. Worlds will die. And things will never be the same.’ There were characters who died. New characters were introduced. The whole status quo of the universe changed,” Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly. "I hope that everyone feels that we’ve lived up to that.”
With ominous fates teased for both Oliver Queen and Barry Allen, it is unknown if the two longtime Arrowverse protagonists will make it out of the crossover alive.
"Crisis on Infinite Earths" begins Sunday, Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Supergirl, then continues in Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. After the winter hiatus, the crossover will conclude on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in Arrow at 8 p.m. ET/PT and in DC's Legends of Tomorrow at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
