Joker director Todd Phillips revealed that he originally pitched Warner Bros. three different films with three different directors as part of a new movie label called DC Black Label.
"I pitched it as three movies, Joker being the first with me, and then these two other movies, with two other directors," Phillips told IGN. "But I don't really want to name them, because then it'll become a thing and I'm pulling these directors into it when I've never even told them about it. It was just me telling Warner Bros. about it.”
Phillips planned for DC Black Label films to be more low-budget character studies like Joker. Though Warner Bros.' turned down the idea for the movie label, Phillips mentioned he thinks its still a "good idea."
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais and Shea Whigham. It will be available on digital HD on Dec. 17 and Blu-ray and DVD on Jan. 7.
