For two years, Zack Snyder's director's cut of Justice League, "the Snyder Cut," has eluded fans eager to see his original vision for the Warner Bros. film. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCutMovement has been picking up steam as of late, though, in light of comments made by DC headliners Jason Momoa, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Danny Elfman and even the director himself. However, one voice is particularly conspicuous by its absence: the voice of Superman actor Henry Cavill.
Now, Cavill has finally shared his thoughts on the Snyder Cut, including whether he believes it even exists.
"I have not seen any Snyder Cut," the actor said. "I don't know if there is anything that exists that is a Snyder Cut. I'm sure there is footage out there which has probably been pieced together over the years. I'm always interested to see how that stuff turns out, but that is very much a chapter of my past."
"I would rather talk about what is going to happen in the future, the future of Superman, how I can express that character from the comic books. Which ties in nicely to Man of Steel," he added.
Cavill’s thoughts about the Snyder Cut have sparked controversy within the fandom, including from some of his most ardent supporters. His comments are a stark contrast to what his colleagues have said, with Momoa claiming he has already "seen the Snyder cut" and Affleck, Gadot and Fisher summarily tweeting out the same hashtag. DC artist Jay Oliva has also voiced his support for the movement, while Synder continues to tease fans about the cut on social media, insisting fervidly that it exists and that he has all the evidence necessary to prove it.
Regardless of Cavill's thoughts, though, Warner Bros. has been discernibly coy about the almost mythical alternate version of Justice League, so only time will tell if it ever sees the light of day.
